

Ruth Ann (Lipscomb) Betscher, age 68, of Hamilton, passed away at University Hospital in Cincinnati on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. Born in Hamilton on April 26, 1943, she was the daughter of James R. and Nora I. (Brewer) Lipscomb. Ruth was raised in Hamilton and attended Eastern University, Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati, where she earned a Masters Degree. On August 12, 1962, she married Charles E. Betscher, Jr., who preceded her in death on November 6, 2001. Ruth was a teacher, social worker and high school guidance counselor and a member of Allison Avenue Baptist Church. Ruth was very active in civic affairs, participating in several performances with the Dayton Opera such as Madame Butterfly, The Pearl Fishers, Norma and others. Ruth is survived by two sisters: Dolores S. (Lipscomb) Smith and husband Douglas Smith of Hamilton, and Mary Etta (Lipscomb) Smith of Oneida, Tennessee; nieces and nephews: Sonya of Dayton, Scott, Susan, and Bruce of California, Ranson of Oneida, Tennessee, and James Douglas Smith of Hamilton; and 7 great-nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Clarence Edward Lipscomb; a sister, Barbara (Lipscomb) Weisenberg; and a niece, Eleanor Ann (Smith) Phillips. Funeral services will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 7:30pm with Pastor Kenneth Dugas officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 6:30pm until 7:30pm. Burial will take place at Bevis Cedar Grove Cemetery.
