Steven Jay Theobald

Steven Jay Theobald, 73, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away on September 8, 2026. Born February 23, 1953, in Hamilton, Steven was the son of Peter George Theobald and Marilyn Jeanne (nee: Belcher) Theobald. He will be remembered with deep respect and love by all who were blessed to know him.

Steven graduated from Taft High School and went on to attend Miami University in Oxford, where he earned both a Bachelors and a Masters Degree in Education. His life reflected a steady, thoughtful devotion to learning and to the people placed in his life.

Steven began his professional life in education at Harding Junior High School, teaching during the school year and serving as principal for their summer school class. After a period of time teaching, he transitioned into a career in Sales. During his sales career he ended up at Southwestern Publishing, where he enjoyed many years representing the company and fostering long term close relationships. After his tenure at Southwestern, he returned to his love of education by accepting a position at ACT, a company specializing in standardized testing for college placement.

In 1994 Steven married the love of his life, Erin Elizabeth O'Brien. Together they shared a love of travel, including the most notable trips to Ireland and Hawaii. Through the years, Steven’s faithful heart and steady presence helped create a home marked by love, gratitude, and the kind of care that is felt more than it is spoken.

An avid, excellent golfer, Steven played many courses including Twin Run, the Elks, and Walden Pond. He also loved to cultivate his yard, taking pride in it—quiet work that reflected the same attentive spirit he brought to the people and responsibilities he cherished.

Steven’s life was also defined by sincere service and a deep commitment to faith. He belonged to a men’s ministry through Hope Church in Mason called “Better Man.” Steven volunteered with Kairos Prison Ministry. He was lay director at Emmaus Cincinnati for three years and also held other positions in that ministry.

Steve celebrated 31 years of sobriety and sponsored many young men in their journey to sobriety. With a faith that was both steady and lived, he carried a God given inspiration to lead others in their faith, offering guidance with humility, patience, and a thoughtful compassion that left a lasting imprint.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 32 years, Erin Elizabeth (nee:O'Brien) Theobald; his three loving daughters, Taylor (nee:Theobald) Rizzi- husband Evan of Cleveland, Stephanie Zettler of Hamilton, and Stacy Flick and husband Jason of West Chester; his five adored grandchildren, Brady, Emma, Luke, Addyson and Kenzie; his brother, John Theobald and wife DeeDee of Mason. He is also survived by numerous extended family and close friends.

A Celebration of Life for Steven will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19th, 2026, in Hope Church, 4934 Western Row Road, Mason, Ohio 45040 with Pastor Gary Wilkins officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of Steven’s Family.
