Thelma L. Hodge McDowell

Thelma L. Hodge McDowell, age 92 of Hamilton passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Hospice of Hamilton. She was born February 26, 1922 in Spring City, TN the daughter of Otha Cook and Tressie Mae (Helton) Porter. On June 13, 1944 she married William H. Hodge and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1968. On February 14, 1976 in Hamilton she married Russell J. McDowell and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1992. For many years Thelma operated a grocery store in Hamilton. She was a very active member of Hamilton West Baptist Church and also a member of the Eastern Star, Elks Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Ladies of Hamilton. Thelma was an avid bowler and bridge player. She is survived by many nieces and nephews; several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and also a devoted brother-in-law, William McDowell. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; sister, Alma Cooley; three brothers, Arnell, Nowell and Clell Porter; nieces and nephew, Beverly Paik, Charles Porter and Randy Cooley; and grandnephew, Chad Helton. Funeral Services will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 1pm with Pastor David Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 11am to 1pm. Thelma’s family suggests memorials be made to Hamilton West Baptist Church, 1050 NW Washington Boulevard, Hamilton, OH 45013 or to the charity of your choice.
