

She was born June 28, 1923 in Bednarska, Poland. Daughter of the late Maria Chanas and Mykola Popilchak and sister to siblings in the Ukraine and Poland. She came to Canada (Hamilton, Ontario) in 1961 and became the beloved wife of Michael Hryniewicz (2003) and mother of two children, Nadia and Michael (Jr.) caregivers; aunt to nephew, Walter; mother-in-law to Mark Maher. Daughter-in-law to Anna (1979); sister-in-law to Anton (1964) Mykola (1967) and Danica (2017). She is survived by cousins in Oshawa, New Jersey and Poland, nieces and nephews in Ukraine. She became known as Baba to the Ivaniv Family, Roman and Victoria from Ukraine and Anastasia and Nicole born in Canada. She survived WWII, slavery, and witnessed many technological developments over the years. Upon arriving in Canada, she fell in love with the sport of hockey (Toronto Maple Leafs) and was the #1 fan. She loved to garden and the country life. Married and long-time parishioner at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church. A special thank you to Dr. B. Visitation at MARKEY DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth), on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 5-8pm with Panachyda at 7pm. Funeral Service at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church, 15 St. Olga Street, Hamilton, on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at 10am. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a donation to Children of Chernobyl or a charity of your choice.
