Andreas Spyredes

He was a cherished father to Peter (Ioanna) and Tom (Angela), and a proud and loving grandfather to Andreas, Evanthia, Liyeri, and Andreanna. He is also predeceased by his brothers George, Alex, and Nicola, and his sister Elleni. He is survived by his brother Spiro, and sisters Foula and Thespo. Andreas proudly served as a War Veteran, serving from 1949 to 1953, including active duty with the Greek Contingent of the United Nations Expeditionary Forces in Korea from 1951 to 1953.

In 1955, Andreas immigrated to Canada, becoming the first in his family to do so. He helped pave the way for his siblings and fellow villagers to build new lives in their adopted country. He was a founding member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church on Head Street in Hamilton, a testament to his commitment to faith and community. In 1957, Andreas returned to Greece, where he met the love of his life, Evanthia. The two soon returned to Canada to begin their life and raise their family. Together, with his brothers George and Alex they owned and operated the Highway Restaurant in Simcoe and a second restaurant in Port Rowan. Eventually Andreas and Evanthia would branch off on their own beginning with the London Grill in Hamilton. Eventually they came to own The Homestead Restaurant, and finally Andy's Place in Hamilton. Andreas will be remembered for his kind heart, warm conversations, deep dedication to his family, and tireless work ethic. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the community he helped build, and the family he adored.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, 233 East 15th Street, Hamilton. Funeral Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place in Boca Raton, Florida, where Andreas will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Evanthia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Panagia Greek Orthodox Church or St. Demetrios Church in Hamilton.
