Passed away suddenly on Thursday,
April 10, 2014 at St. Joseph's
Hospital, in her 87th year. Predeceased
by her husband Gordon
Sommers (2009). Loving and dedicated
mother to Ross (Lois), Brian (Linda)
and Ruth Williams (Barry). Cherished
grandma to Rory (Michelle), Eric
(Amy), Jennifer Johnson (Trevor),
Mark, Kim and Nancy Williams. Will
be greatly missed by her brother
Archie Horn, better known as
"Archie's Little Sister". Loved by a
niece and many nephews. During
Bernice's younger years, she was
very athletic and loved cart
wheeling her way home from
Memorial Public School as well as
being a cheerleader (the gal at the
top of the pyramid). Bernice was
employed at the Life Saver Company
and Westinghouse a short period of
time. Bernice loved life to the fullest
and enjoyed each day as it came.
Her sense of humour and ability to
dwell on the positive things in life,
gave her courage and bravery to
make important life-long decisions
along the way. Bernice loved being
with people and was always
interested in their stories. Bernice
was a long standing member of
Olivet United Church until just
recently, joining membership at
Marshall Memorial United Church in
Ancaster in 2014. Among Bernice's
hobbies were knitting, a member of
the Canadian and American African
Violet Societies and had a true love
for pet dogs throughout her life.
She loved outdoors and especially
loved being at her cottage on
Skeleton Lake in the summer
months. Special thanks to Highgate
Retirement Residence Staff, Ancaster,
where Bernice resided for her last
year and enjoyed and loved her
caregivers immensely. Cremation
has already taken place. Memorial
visitation will be held at the
CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322
Fennell Ave. E. on Tuesday, April 15th
from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration
of Bernice's life will be held at Olivet
United Church, 40 Empress Ave. on
Wednesday, April 16th at 11 a.m.
Donations to Olivet United Church,
Marshall Memorial United Church
(Ancaster) or the Arthritis Society
of Canada would be greatly
appreciated by the family.
