Bessie Walker St. Croix (nee Cocker) March 8, 1930 - November 13, 2009 With great sadness we announce the passing of a wonderful woman, Bessie St. Croix. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Henderson Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario after a short illness. The youngest of six children, Bessie was born and raised in Inverurie, Scotland, where she met and married her first husband, Norman Gardiner in 1951. After living at RAF bases in Germany and Scotland, they immigrated to Canada in 1957 and were blessed with their only child, Scott. Several years after the passing of her first husband, Bessie met Dermot St. Croix, and they married in 1983. Bessie was a most generous and compassionate person helping anyone in need and volunteering her time, such as at the Chedoke Continuing Care Centre. She loved to tell expressive, humorous stories of her past, which always ended with hearty laughter. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her pet dogs Amber, Trevor and Bingo. Bessie was a devoted wife and dedicated, loving mother and grandmother. We will always deeply treasure and remember your love, laughter and Doric expressions Granny! Besides her husband Dermot, Bessie is survived by her son and his spouse, Scott and Margaret Gardiner, her 2 beloved grandsons Benjamin and Kyle Gardiner (Calgary, Alberta); her niece June Simpson and family, nephew James Florence (Edinburgh, Scotland); nephew Ian Cocker and family, nephew Alan Cocker, (Yorkshire, England); sister-in-law Betty Gardiner and niece Kate Edwards (Inverurie and Aberdeen, Scotland). Bessie leaves behind many close friends, especially Vivian, Margaret, Joanne, Dot and Peggy whom were most dear to her. Bessie was predeceased by her first husband Norman, her parents, her 3 brothers and 2 sisters and their spouses. We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dragomir, the nurses and staff in Ward F5 at the Henderson Hospital in Hamilton for their tender and attentive care. Following cremation, a celebration of Bessie's life will be held on Friday, November 20th, 2009 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. E., Hamilton.
