Our sincere condolences on the death of your beloved mother Betty - the Grand Lady who touched the lives of so many in people around the world. The community mourns the loss of one of the last of a great Goan generation of pioneers who set standards that enabled our generation to meet the challenges of life after Uganda.

Dearest Sandra, Evarist, Frieda, Vince, Myra, children and grandchildren.
Betty was such a unique person, warm, kind and a true friend for well over 50 years.
We shared many happy times with Betty and her family in Uganda.  We recall all the fun and laughs we had at picnics, parties, dances etc.  
She was one of the best dressed ladies in Jinja town and I remember always looking out for her in Church, after Mass just to see the latest styled dress which she designed/sewed herself.  She even cut out a pant-suit for me.
Betty will always be remembered with love and affection; we will very much miss not seeing her when we next visit Canada because when we last telephoned her in June, at her insistence, we promised that we would go out for a meal together.  
Betty will always be in our thoughts, prayers and sadly missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace !! God bless her family!

She has to be one of the kindest and most generous persons that walked the earth
Once when we were visiting with the children, she insisted that we have a meal and promptly set about to prepare it. Another time when we moved to Hamilton she came over to help with the decoration.

You are very lucky to have had such a wonderful person for a mother/grandmother !
We have met her often during her holliday in Goa ( 1996 - 2002 ) at the residence of the Gonsalves family at Calangute. She had her share of issues I'm sure, but she always dwelled on the brighter things in life. She was blessed with an ever positive attitude which she passed on to all she encountered.
Losing her must be very difficult.
I'm sure however, she must have inculcated in all of you the fortitude to move on in a manner that would make her proud of the legacy she's left behind.

Although we do not know you, Pl accept our condolences on the passing away of one of the nicest people we've known !

My dear Sandra,

 

I do not have words that can ease the hurt of your great loss, but offer you my sincerest Condolences, and my belief that your Mother has gone to her richly deserved assignment in Heaven, from whence she will continue her watchful care and intercession for the loved ones she has left behind. 

 

From all the accounts I have received and from the qualities and good breeding of the children she raised, your Mom Betty D'Souza was, is and will be a true Jewel of humanity.  On receiving the news, I have a lump in my throat and my heart hurts for you, your family, and your sisters.  Your grief is heavy and justified because you feel she has gone away.  Well, she really has not, she has gone to the next phase and you will be able in some ways to talk with her and feel her loving and caring presence.  Remember, at the end of a long and fruitful life, one gets tired and wants to pass on to the next phase.  I have seen this happen and she may have talked about that.  In passing on, she is undoubtedly taking in the wonder and joys of her new place.  As is done in many instances, what is called for is a Celebration of the Rich Life and Achievements of your exceptional Mom, Betty D'Souza, that will spur us all to emulate her example.
