With the passing of Catharina Bialachowski on August 22, 2025, at the age of 98, a bright light dimmed in our lives and the world feels a little less radiant without her warmth. She is now lovingly reunited with her beloved husband, Frank (2008), her cherished partner in every dance, card game and moment with family and friends.
Catharina will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Linda Dunn (Randy), and her son, Richard (Anne). She was a proud and devoted Babcia to Stefanie (Holden), Jennifer, Emily (Michael), Brittany, Nicholas (Jessica), Rebecca (Patrick), and Kirsten (Erick), and a joyful Prababcia to Mahayla, Owen, Liam, Abigail, and Cruz. The family dogs held a special place in her heart; keeping treats on hand and always slipping them an extra nibble. She’d remind us that while our visits were the highlight of her day, they weren’t complete unless we brought them along each time.
Predeceased by her brothers Tony and Hans, and her sisters Anni and Elisabeth, Catharina is survived by her dear sister Sophie, along with extended family across Canada, Germany, Poland, and the United States.
Catharina’s kitchen was the heart of our family. A gifted cook and baker, she delighted in hosting large gatherings, always preparing everyone’s favourites. Her legendary cabbage rolls, baked treats, and thoughtful care packages will be remembered with love, as no one’s cooking ever quite compared to Babcia’s. She also found joy in gardening and playing cards, especially euchre in her later years. When tending the garden became more difficult, she treasured her balcony plants, carefully arranged so she could admire them from her favourite chair.
She embodied the values of family, compassion, and unconditional love. Her kindness and joyful spirit touched everyone she met, and those gifts will forever remain in our hearts.
Whether at the end of a warm visit or the close of a phone call, her parting words were always “I love you,” and it feels only fitting that our final words to her will be “I love you”.
Visitation for Catharina will be held Wednesday, August 27, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, ON. Rosary will occur at 7:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 8 Saint Ann St, Hamilton. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, 600 Spring Gardens Rd, Burlington.
