Christine "Bunny" Sawyer (Fontaine)

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Christine “Bunny” Sawyer (Fontaine), who departed this life peacefully at home on December 31, at the age of 84, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Bunny was the cherished wife of the late William (Bill) Sawyer and a devoted mother to her four children and their respective partners: Kevin (Kathy), Carrieann (Tim), Glenn (Nancy), and Daryl (Nelly). Her legacy continues through her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were fortunate to experience her love and guidance.

A remarkable woman, Bunny's zest for life inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her. As a dedicated teacher to thousands, she poured her heart and soul into every role she embraced, believing in the potential of every individual. Her passion for education and unwavering commitment to her students reflected her generous spirit, strength, warmth, and kindness, which touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on our hearts.

Surrounded by the love of her family in her final moments, Bunny exemplified the beautiful relationships she nurtured throughout her life. She faced her illness with the same dignity and grace that characterized her entire journey, serving as a beacon of strength for all who loved her.

Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will forever live on in the memories we share and the lessons she taught us. Let us honour her legacy by carrying forward her love, compassion, and zest for life.

Visitation at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, on Saturday, January 4, 2025 from 11 am until the time of Funeral Service in the chapel at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
