On April 21 Dorothy Giles passed peacefully at Regina Gardens at the age of 90, predeceased by her husband Gordon Giles of 66 years, and deeply mourned by her 3 daughters ( Nancy Hemrica, Sandra Giles and Lois Verboon), her 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Dorothy's love tasted like lemon pie and homemade jam. It smelled like Estee Lauder perfume and roses from her garden. It looked like graceful penmanship on your birthday card and sandwiches cut in triangles. It sounded like “you are my sunshine” that rocked generations of babies to sleep, and it felt like the warmest of hugs when you needed them most.
Dorothy’s greatest passion was being a mom and a homemaker. She welcomed and fed everyone that passed through the door of her home on the east mountain or her cottage up north. Dorothy had endless love for babies, children and even our poorly behaved dogs. She loved music, reading, and baking, but was happiest when surrounded by her family. Although she stood barely 5 feet tall Dorothy had an immense capacity for love and she will be greatly missed by many.
Dorothy received the most compassionate care from the staff at Regina Gardens Long Term Care who extended kindness and dignity to her during the last years of her life; we are forever in their debt.
Dorothy’s family will remember her in a private ceremony and celebration of her life, where we will share her stories and recipes and enjoy our time together as she would have wanted.
