Eugenia leaves behind her daughters, Anneli, Ruth, Donna, Rita, and her granddaughter, Erika (Lee), as well as many relatives in Canada, America and Lithuania. Eugenia was predeceased by her husband, Emil (1978), and her sons, Richard (2018) and Edward (2001) and son-in-law, John (2021). She is also predeceased by her nine siblings.
Eugenia arrived at Pier 21, Halifax on June 6, 1948 to begin a new life in Canada. Despite the hardships and trials of war, Eugenia’s strong faith in God and her belief in the goodness of people helped her to maintain a positive and hopeful outlook. An active member of the Lithuanian church and community in her vibrant years, Eugenia enjoyed many meaningful friendships, connections and experiences. Family and faith were core to her being. A lifelong walker, Eugenia was a familiar fixture in the Strathcona neighbourhood. Whether walking through Victoria park to the Farmers’ Market, or across the bridge into Westdale, or trekking to High Level Bridge via Dundurn Park, Eugenia always carried a rosary in her pocket. She was often called upon to fulfill prayer requests which she faithfully did. Eugenia felt blessed to travel to Rome, the Holy Land and to her native Lithuania in her later years. Her sense of humour, kindness and loving nature will be missed by all who knew her.
