Evarist was a devoted husband of 56 years to Sandra, a loving father to Tonya (Dave) Smouter, Cheryl (Louis) Ferreira, and Sheena (Paul) Fabbroni. Proud grandfather to Jared, Kenan, Allie, Maia, Isla, and Luca.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings Rose Mary, Bertha, and Joseph, and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Francis and Rosa Maria Correia and his brother Albert.
Born in Uganda, Evarist spent his formative years in Pakistan in the care of his uncle and aunt. In 1956 he moved back to Uganda with his brother Albert, where he integrated with the Goan community, studied and met the love of his life, Sandra. They married in 1968 and had their first child before immigrating to Canada in 1972.
Evarist and Sandra built their lives in Hamilton, and were active participants in parish life at St. Margaret Mary. Evarist was employed at Stelco, where he worked for 32 years until retirement in 2002. He then devoted his time to his grandchildren, all of whom brought him great joy.
We would like to extend our thanks to family and friends, and the compassionate staff at Idlewyld Manor, who supported Evarist through his final days.
