Florence leaves many dear friends both in California and Ontario. Florence met John Giambruno while visiting in New York and they married in 1946. They lived in Brooklyn, New York for the first few years before moving to Culver City and then to Northridge, in the San Fernando Valley, California. In Northridge, Florence & John had a half acre property with a wonderful garden and many fruit trees. For some time, they raised a few cows and also had some show dogs. Florence enjoyed cooking, canning and baking. Her cooking was not limited to family and guests in her home, but also for friends, neighbours, seniors and parishoners. In addition, she helped to organize & cook for the parish pasta suppers. Florence and John’s home was always open and welcoming, especially to Florence’s family from Canada. They were always happy to arrange for family to visit the many sites and attractions in the Los Angeles area escorted by dear friend, Paul “Chip” Chiappinelli. Usually no visit was complete unless Florence arranged a side trip to Las Vegas. Florence always looked forward to visiting her family in Hamilton. She often brought an extra suitcase with her because she was bringing gifts for the family. On her return to California, she would often pack numerous “only in Canada” items such as Red Rose tea, Coffee Crisp chocolate bars and Lancia pasta. Florence was very active in professional bowling for 15 years and continued to enjoy bowling into her later years. Florence embraced her Catholic faith. For many years, she assisted with religious studies for Confirmation candidates at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Northridge. For over 15 years, she was a sacristan at St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Reseda as well as a counter on Sundays. Florence was also a Eucharistic minister at the church and local hospital, a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and assisted with decorating the church for weekends and special occasions. She also volunteered at the Northridge Hospital for over 20 years.
When Florence moved into her apartment in Northridge, she served as the building manager’s helper, always ready to “point out or advise” when things were not working and needed repair or posting “reminder” signs in the elevator. Florence was a strong-willed, energetic, faith-filled woman who loved her family in California and in the Hamilton area, as well as her many dear friends and her church family. She will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Florence’s many friends, especially Renee Zepezauer and Tony Armada in Northridge for their friendship, caring & help to Florence, especially over the last several years.
