George Olarie, predeceased by his wife Norma Cino Olarie, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024 surrounded by his daughter, Natalie Smurthwaite and her partner Frank Miniaci, his stepson Carl Cino, and his grandchildren Kate MacKay, Ian Smurthwaite and his partner Adrienne Cabral, and Heather Smurthwaite and her partner Lucas Deveaux.
George was born in Kayville, Saskatchewan on his parent’s farm, he later grew up and joined the army. He was an avid and skilled golfer and actually shot a hole-in-one and was a marshall at Chedoke Golf course for many years. He especially loved to drive to Florida and spend the winters there with Norma and looked forward to the family and friends that would come and stay.
A special thanks to all the staff on the third floor at St.Peter’s Palliative Care Hospital for your excellent care, support and bartending skills…right to the end. An honourable mention to George’s signature drink a “Manbuca”, one part sambuca and one part scotch over a lot of ice.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cancer Society in his name would be appreciated.
