He leaves behind friends and family who love him very much and are heartbroken that he left us too soon. He had a brief battle with Pancreatic Cancer but was in a place surrounded by wonderful people who took exceptional care of him in his last days.
Gerry was an original - a rule breaker, a brilliant soul, an inventor, a father, a brother, and a wonderful friend. He lived life by his own rules, and we admired him for it. He is missed and cherished in so many amazing memories that we all have. I am so lucky he was my dad (from his daughter Chris).
Per his wishes, there will be no funeral, but a celebration of life will be arranged at a later date. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome to come and share memories of Gerry and drink German wine and Bailies Irish Cream and have snacks. Details in a few weeks.
Gerry was a remarkable man, a kind and generous soul, a brilliant mind, and a person who would sacrifice everything if it made someone else’s life better. He was the best dad I could have ever wished for and the best friend anyone could imagine. He taught me to play chess, and program, and solder, and drive stick. That cheese curds need to squeak and Ontario Beefsteak tomatoes from a farmstand make the best toasted tomato sandwiches. And be your own person no matter what anyone else has to say about it.
In the words of J.R.R Tolkien, ‘Not all those who wander are lost’
In the words of Robert Frost, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I – I took the one less travelled by, and that has made all the difference”
We love you Gerry, and we’re happy you’re finally at peace
