Gernhard August Herbert Behnke

BEHNKE, Gernhard August Gern peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, November 5, 2010 in his 81st year. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Margaret (nee Utter) and his beloved daughter Judith and her husband Norman Mann of Toronto. He is also survived by his sister Bertha Vukmanich of Hamilton and his brother Verner and his wife Illene of Palmer Rapids. Lovingly remembered by in-laws Emily McDougall and Edith and Harold Packham of Smithville. He will also be missed by his niece Linda and her husband Jim Stewart and their children Jacob and Taylor of Stoney Creek. Predeceased by his parents August and Ida Behnke and 9 brothers and sisters and his in-laws Frank and Jean Simpson. He retired in 1988 from National Grocers where he worked for 37 years. Special thanks to Dr. Roy, Sue and Pam for all their care and to Pastor McLeod and Bonnie Hofer for all their support. Also a special thanks to our dear friend Errin Dawson (a.k.a Eleanor) who has been there for us during these difficult years. Also thanks to the General Hospital staff who looked after him so well during all his trips back over the last 3 years. Thanks also to the CCAC, the staff at Bayshore and St. Joseph's Home Care Nurses and Barb, Ron and Guy of our apartment building for being there when we needed them. Visitation will be held at the MARKEY DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Saturday, November 13th from 1-4 p.m, a funeral service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday at 4 p.m., cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers donations to Faith Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
