Most paramedics end up with a nickname and everyone knows them only by that name. I am sure Gord had a few having worked in a few different services. I know Gord as Ruby. When Gord first came to work in Peel he wore a ruby stud earring and that is what I called him as did a few others who were in the management group including the acting supervisors. 
Gord always had a story to tell and enjoyed chatting with his friends and listened to their war stories. Everyone always got a chuckle out of the conversations.
Gord was fair, honest and kind and asked that the medics he supervised be the same. He wanted you to learn something from the incidents he investigated to make you a better medic.
Many new medics don't like the term Ambulance driver or Ambulance attendant.  Gord, like me thought those terms were a badge of honour and a term of endearment. He was not shy in saying that he was a Ambulance Attendant.
My Story of Gord: I sat over a wall from Gord in our Headquarters in Brampton. Next door to the Headquarters was a fire station. Gord and I share similar views of our brothers and sisters next door at the fire station. When fire fighters left the station with lights and sirens blaring, I always chuckled when I heard " Cat in a Tree, Cat in a tree" come from Gord's side of the wall, indicating that the fire fighters were off to another supposed emergency only to return a short few minutes later when they weren't needed.
Till we meet again Ruby, we will take it from here.

I offer my deepest condolences to Gordie’s family. You were his light.

Like many, I was blessed to have Gordie as my friend. His friendship touched my life in ways I will always cherish. I’m struggling to find words to describe my experience with such a remarkable person.
Gordie believed in God. I find solace in imagining his spirit in heaven at peace, laughing and letting others know of his awesome family which I know he will be watching over with great pride.

I miss sour cream donuts, morning song of the day, hearing all about the pets,  how proud you are of your children, exchanging a glance, and breaking into laughter at a shared joke, your unwavering support and friendship.  I know you are in a better place (free from the pain and frustration).  I know how strong your family is, because I knew them all, before I knew them all. I have some great memories of Gord from when we first met back in the Hamilton days. I was at the dispatch centre and he was a road supervisor. We worked closely together to iron out issues and be collaborative on projects. When I moved to investigations Gord had moved on as well. We always respected each other’s roles.

Each and every time we first met Gord would lower his voice and say sternly “Richard”. Then smile.

A true gentleman. A great talent. An all around nice person.

I had the pleasure of working as partners with Gord at Peel Paramedics. Not only did he teach me countless lessons but we had a laugh each and every day. Practical jokes abounded. The life stories we shared in our little office will stick with me for life. He truly inspired me the day someone showed up at the door with a life threatening cut which would have resulted in death had Gord not quickly jumped into action. There is no doubt he saved the man's life but when it was over he carried on with his work as if nothing had happened. Gord was one of the good guys and always seemed to see the good side even in situations that didn't appear to be so. I will miss his continued friendship.

Gord was my friend, a really thoughtful and caring person. He was never too busy to stop by my desk to say a cheery hello and to  have a conversation. I will miss his smile and very positive demeanor. Gord was not only my friend, but he was also everybody's friend. I am very sad that he is gone and I will miss him and his stories.

Gord was always someone willing to engage in a conversation.  I always enjoyed our impromptu connections and his positive energy.

Gord always made time for you, and he was delighted to share stories and interesting conversation. He was the epitome of a decent and caring man. I'm so sorry he's gone.

I had the pleasure of working closely with Gord when we were partners back in 2018. He taught me the role and showed me the ropes. He was always so kind and patient with me. The most important lesson he taught me was about fostering relationships, something he truly mastered. Always reminding me that people came first. 

Gord, I miss walking into work and seeing your light on, hearing your optimistic “good morning” and enjoying a mini muffin together. I will miss our long conversations. 

You will not be forgotten. Rest in peace.

First and foremost, condolences to the entire Walton family on the loss of Gord. 

Gord did my orientation to Superior EMS 20 years ago. It was my first “real” job and I was really nervous! He took me out to do my driver training and by his kind nature, put me to ease. The remainder of the test went smoothly and uneventful!  This is how I will remember him by. 

Through the years as we transitioned from Superior EMS to Peel Region he continued to be his friendly self and always greeted me with a smile and asked how I was despite not seeing him often. 

Thank you Gord for your years of service to our Paramedic Profession.
