Peacefully, held by the hands of love, on January 28, 2020, in her 82nd year, at St. Peter's Hospital, Hamilton. Helen has joined her parents Miles and Hazel O'Brien and son Steven. She was a beloved mother to Miles (Lori), Debra (Jeff), and Diane. Cherished grandmother to James, Scott, Aaron, Sarah and Katie. Sister to Joan (Stew). Aunt to Tracy and Pam (Tom).
Helen worked for many years for Ontario Blue Cross and prior to that in the office at McCormick’s Biscuits. She was a hard worker and an exceptionally independent woman who lived on her own for decades, right up until a week before her death at St. Peters.
We will miss her kind and empathetic way to all, the tolerance she taught, the generosity of spirit and acceptance she lived and the passionate Canadian political debates she truly loved. Sundays will never be the same! She taught us all to give back to the community as she exemplified with her 30 years volunteer work at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton. She will also be sadly missed by her many friends at the YWCA Hamilton.
We are grateful to live in the City of Hamilton where our mother received world class health care throughout her journey with gallbladder cancer.
Special thanks to Dr. Ved Tandan and Dr. Jennifer Martini for their expert and compassionate care.
Friends and family are invited to join us for a celebration of Helen's life on what would have been her 82nd birthday . A visitation will occur Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave E, Hamilton, ON. Followed by a memorial service in the Chapel at 3:00 PM. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Helen’s name to the Good Shepherd
