

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our most beloved Hopie. On May 21st Hopie transitioned this life having developed complications post surgery. On May 23rd Hopie was officially pronounced in hospital and therefore was with her Lord at the age of 59 years Bold surrounded by loving family and friends.
Loved daughter of Mineum Palmer and the late Leslie Palmer (Potsdam, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica).
Beloved wife of Charles for over 33 years.
Adored mother of Denise Sinclair (Ryan), Yolanda DeLeon, Charles DeLeon Jr., and step-son Teddane DeLeon (Tiffany).
Joyous Nana of Benjamin Sinclair.
Dear sister of Courtney Palmer (Hermine), Morris Palmer (Sonia), Marjorie McLeish (Tony), Hopeton Palmer (Carol), Hilrett Laird (Ronald), Sharon Allen (Dinns), Juliet Plummer (Orville), Donna Lee Mitchell-Castell (Loren) and Derrick Palmer (Sandra).
Also greatly missed and survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
Hopie started her career in banking at the National Commercial Bank (NCB), Jamaica. She then partnered with her husband Charles in managing operations at the family business DeLeon Enterprises, Jamaica. Hopie was also co-founder and Principal at Hopie's Pre-prepartory school, Jamaica while simultaneously pursuing a diploma in Early Childhood Education. While living in Canada Hopie worked for Pathways Academy (now Childventures), Prince of Wales (Hamilton Wentworth District School Board) and Little People's. Her co-workers and students loved her very much.
Hopie will be remembered most for her beautiful smile, her positive attitude, her strong faith in God, her gentle and quiet spirit and her kindness and compassion for others.
Please share with us in honouring Hopie's memory by wearing any shade of blue; teal was her favourite colour.
Visitation will be held at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton on Friday, June 14th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held at Peoples Church Hamilton, 510 Mohawk Road West, on Saturday, June 15th at 9:00 a.m. sharp (please plan to arrive early).
Interment at Mt. Hamilton Cemetery.
A reception will follow the interment back at Peoples Church in the Blair Hall.
Memorial Donations may be made to the Peoples Church Building Fund.
The family would like to thank all persons (family members, strangers, friends) who have shown their support in prayer, kind words, thoughts and deeds. Your acts of love and kindness are immensely appreciated. A special thank you to clergy and members of the church family at Peoples, a pillar of strength in this time of grief.
