Irene passed away peacefully, at Ridgeview Long-Term-Care Home on June 8, 2023.
Beloved wife of the late James Fraser, for 59 happy years. Dearly loved mother of Marilyn (Frank) Aguino, and James (Janet) Fraser. Cherished grandmother of Mark (Leslie) Aquino, Michelle (Alex) Erasmi, Aaron (Amy) Fraser, Kyle Fraser, and Tiffany Fraser (Greg Dougherty) and a very special loving great-grandmother (GG) to Dylan, Brayden, Matteo, Sofia, Julius, Asha, Kennedy, McKinley and Reagan and great-great-grandmother to baby Elena. Irene was also a loving step-grandmother and step-great-grandmother to many children, whom she treated as her own - with love and kindness! She will be greatly missed by her loving brother Ron Gore (the late Shirley) and her devoted sister Wilma (Emil) Yurko, as well as her nephews and friends.
Irene was born in Manchester, England, immigrating to Canada with her family as a toddler, and lived her lifetime in Hamilton! She shared many wonderful stories about growing up in Hamilton in the 20s and 30s and what a different world it was. She talked about the incline railway up the escarpment, the ferry that went across the bay, the very beginning of the RBG, working at Dingley Dell on the beach, and riding her bicycle all around Hamilton and up the mountain! The greatest joy in Irene's life was her life with her husband Jim and her family. She loved being a mother and homemaker and provided a loving home to return to with delicious meals and her forever famous walnut squares! We will always cherish her recipes, her needlepoint art, her cozy afghans, her hugs and her laughter!
We are very grateful for the loving care, compassion and kindness she received from the devoted staff
at Ridgeview long-term-care home over the past eighteen months. We also would like to thank the caring staff at Deerview Crossing Retirement Home where she lived for eight years, as well as the visiting caregivers from St. Elizabeth's. They say 'It takes a village' and we will be forever grateful for the village of caregivers Irene had including the excellent care she received, for over 50 years, from her beloved Doctor....the late Dr. Angelo Zizzo.
Irene, your work here is done.....may you have the peace you deserve and be welcomed by your beloved husband, Jim, and a good cup of tea.
A private family visitation and funeral will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue. In lieu of flowers, you may consider a donation to a charity of your choice. Online condolences can be left at www.cresmountfennellchapel.com
