Ivan Mitar

Beloved husband of Ruza (nee Sego) for 51 years. Loving tata of Ana Leone (Marcello) and Stipe (Kristina). Cherished dida of Gianluca and Katarina. Dear brother of Mila Sego (Jure), Marinko (Mary), Ante (Danica), Domin (Ljilja), Andja Crnogorac (Vinko), Iva Mitar (the late Mate), Ana Bosnjak (the late Jerko), the late Stana Ilic and cousin of Iva Ilicic (Josip). Uncle of Vesna, Maryann, Michael, Katarina, Kreso, Ivica, Tomislav, Sanja, Julijana, Ana Maria and their families in Canada, along with nieces and nephews in Hrvatska. Also greatly missed by many kumovi, friends and extended family in Canada and Hrvatska. Predeceased by his parents Stjepan and Manda Mitar. Ivan was a man of unwavering faith and devotion. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who adored his two grandchildren. He came to Hamilton in 1965 when he was 18 and brought many of his family members to Canada. As a new immigrant to Canada, he went through many hardships but remained resilient. He retired after 40 years of dedicated service at Dofasco. He enjoyed playing bocce, going for walks and spending time with his family and friends. Ivan leaves behind an everlasting legacy of profound kindness and admiration for his family. He will always be remembered and cherished. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday from 4-9 pm with Rosary at 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Church 1883 King Street East, on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 10 am. Interment Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
