He leaves behind a legacy of devotion, quiet strength, and an unwavering love that shaped generations. James was married to the love of his life, Janet, for 68 wonderful years. Their bond was built on deep commitment and gentle companionship, a partnership that carried them through every season and remained the heart of his world.
Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, James was a man defined by kindness, steadiness, and genuine care for others. He spent many years working at Consumers Glass, formerly Domglass, where he was respected for his loyalty, determination, and the kind of reliability people could count on day after day.
James found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, watching stock car races, plane spotting, and anything to do with trains. He enjoyed traveling and exploring new places with quiet curiosity. His humor carried a soft, sarcastic edge, the kind that made you smile even before he spoke. And whenever someone asked where they were going, he would answer with his familiar, teasing reply: “Buffalo Raceway.” It brings us comfort to imagine that in his own way that might be where he is headed now.
He gave generously to his community, serving for years as a dedicated volunteer with the Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton. Through his time, care, and gentle presence, he made a lasting difference in the lives of children and families who needed someone steady in their corner.
James was the beloved father of Brad, Keith (Shirley), Gary (Barb), and Kelly (Madeline). He was a cherished grandfather to Sarah (Bunnaro), Shannon, Lindsay, Brad (Heather), Brandon, Zachary, and Brittany (Roland). He was a proud great-grandfather to Alexis, Aidan, Nakoa, Kaimana, Leilani, Myah, Bradley, Charlotte, Lyla, and Dean. He is predeceased by his sons Brad and Keith, whom he now joins in peace.
He will be missed more deeply than words can express. His quiet strength, gentle humor, and constant love were the foundation of our family, and life will never feel quite the same without him. While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing he is finally at peace and free from suffering. We will carry his memory with us always, grateful for every moment we were blessed to share with him.
Special thank you to St. Joseph's Harbour North physicians, nurses, PSWs and all other support staff for your compassionate care.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate James' life on Monday November 17th, 2025 at Cresmount Funeral Home at 322 Fennell Avenue E in Hamilton. Visitation will take place at 11am, followed by a service at 12pm. Procession to follow to burial at Mount Hamilton Cemetery at 260 Rymal Road E in Hamilton.
