Born James John Gascoyne in Edmonton, Alberta on May 25, 1949 to Norman and Mary Gascoyne. He was the eldest child in the family of six: Phyllis, Larry, Don, Joan, and Bonnie. Growing up in Edmonton,
Jim (as he was commonly referred to as) decided to attend Canadian Union College in Lacombe, Alberta. He finished his education at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI with a degree in physical
education, minoring in math. He went on to do his Master of Physical Education in Sports Medicine where he took education classes at the University of Alberta. Working as a teacher in Alberta for a number of
years, he moved to Ontario to continue his career there around the age of 30. It was here, at Grandview Adventist Academy, that he met his wife, Beverly Anne Kaytor. They were married on July 18, 1982 and
for the remainder of his life they lived together in Hamilton. Jim had two sons: Aaron and Jonathan. He was also blessed to have a chance to know his granddaughters, Penny (Aaron’s daughter) and Nova
(Jonathan’s daughter). Those who have had the privilege of knowing Jim, know he had a love for sports, nature, reading, puzzles, and being a follower of Jesus. Over the past couple years, he had many health
issues and after having open-heart surgery he passed unexpectedly, but peacefully away on July 15, 2020 in the Hamilton General Hospital.
Predeceased by: His parents Mary and Norman, as well as Phyllis his sister, and Peter Hager his brother in-law.
