Peacefully at home on 7 June 2011 in her 92nd year with loved ones at her side. Survived by daughters Jennifer (Stephen McCanse) of Toronto and Judy (Sam See) of Melbourne, Australia, and her beloved grandson, “my boy,” Riley Achen-Donnelly. Also survived by her dear friend Carol Boult, nieces Norma Colborne, Alana Ward, Diane Edwards and Janice Goth, friends Sandy Gibbs, Norma Hendershot and Carol McCanse, many other devoted nephews, nieces and friends, and by her constant companion and feline comedian, Oscar. Predeceased by her husband, Wallace McClung (Bud) Donnelly, sisters Marjorie Goth and Merle Mallon, and brothers William and Fred Blackburn. Born in Poltimore, Quebec, Jean worked for the Bank of Canada in Ottawa before joining the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She was extremely proud to have driven ambulances during the London Blitz, transporting badly injured soldiers arriving from the Front. She married Bud in 1951 and lived in Westdale for 48 years, attended St Paul’s Anglican Church and held managerial positions at Hamilton Trust and Stelco Credit Union. Jean was a good humored, kind person who until very recently baked cookies for neighbours and loved ones. Always dressed in style, she turned cross-border shopping into a family tradition and enjoyed many summers at her beloved Sauble Beach, and winters in Florida with Bud and her sister Marjorie. She faced her recent health challenges with grace, courage and determination. We thank family and friends for the phone calls and visits that buoyed her throughout her later years, and thank her many kind neighbours at The Village Hill. We thank Dr Karen Trollope-Kumar and Dr Kieran Killian for years of extraordinary care, particularly Karen for being there when Mom most needed her, nurse practitioner Mike Spoljar, and the VAC, VON and CCAC workers for their recent assistance. Private cremation has taken place. Arrangements under the direction of Marlatt Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Hamilton. On-line condolences may be made at www.marlattfhhamilton.com . A celebration of Jean’s life will be held Thursday, July 7 at 12 noon at the Burlington Golf and Country Club, 422 North Shore Blvd. East, Burlington (905-634-7726). Donations to The Farley Foundation (“Healing pets, helping people”): 420 Bronte St. South, Suite 205, Milton, ON L9T 0H9, www.farleyfoundation.org/ are welcomed.
