The service for Jeremy was very touching. Each speaker did such a wonderful job during an enormously emotional time. However, it was the photo video that touched us the deepest. The early pictures of Jeremy and Melanie brought back many memories. Those two little blond haired bundles of energy were always so welcome at my parents’ farm in Caledon. 
Woody was already a fixture, best friends with my brother, Todd. He was always so good to my parents, just another one of the “Moffat kids”. Later, Helena and then the kids were warmly and lovingly welcomed into the fold.
Woody, Hel, and family, this is a heartache we can only imagine and our hearts and prayers go out to you. The minister was correct when she said you’ve raised three beautiful children.

My parents were best friends with Woody & Helena my whole life. 

But, my favourite memory of Jeremy was at a house party that Mel & her roommates had when I was in college. Mel had invited me to this party they were having. All I remember about the apartment is that it had a huge ass balcony that wrapped around. 

I remember being nervous as I arrived because Jer & Mel were the 'cool' kids that were a few years older than me and I looked up to them. When I knocked on the door, Jer answered. He gave me that big Jeremy smile and a great big hug and immediately my nerves were calmed. He had a way of making people feel included and welcomed. 

Jeremy was a funny, charismatic, kind and sensitive man. We are all richer for having had him in our lives. Gone to soon, but never forgotten.

Jeremy was like a son to Todd and I. In fact - he's the reason we decided to start a family of our own. He was the first born to our best friends and he brought joy into all our lives. 

As a child, Jeremy used to leave stones in our mailbox for us. We watched him grow up and become a wonderful young man. Despite the fact that his first car seat was a case of beer that sat between Todd and Woody. His laughter was infectious, his sense of humour second to none and of course his musical talents brought us all so much joy. We have so many happy memories of campfires, fireworks, music and laughter. 

Jeremy and Woody were the last two people outside of our immediate family to see and speak to Todd before he died. This meant a lot to our family as we are sure it did to both of them. We know that Todd would have been the first in line to greet him, probably with a beer. 

We should never have to bury our children. It's just not the order of things. Our hearts go out to Woody & Helena, Dawne & Joey, Mel & TJ, Nathan and Sam and the rest of the family. 

Jeremy was a light in all of our lives that was extinguished far too soon. The memories we have will always be special and we all feel so blessed to have had him in our lives.

Jeremy was one of the most passionate and loyal friends I've ever had. His big personality is unforgettable. My parents loved him like a son, and our friends loved him like a brother. I feel truly blessed to have known you brother Jer. Great memories of time spent at Broadway Music, the cabin, Mariposa and summer folk. A great guy who was loved by so many. My love and condolences to the whole family. I know he loved you all more than anything. He’ll be forever in my heart. 

I grew up with Jeremy in Mono.  As kids were the good friends of Todd and Diane Halliday, who were twins, and we spent a lot of weekends at their log home together; skating on the pond and fighting over who got to play Nintendo.  

Through the years we were in classes together and went to the same parties.  We rode the bus together  through grade school and high school and that was an awesome sort of family.  It was a loud bus with jokes and teasing but also real conversations and caring.  A really special bunch of kids.

He was like a brother to me.  Someone to laugh with, someone who talked about the hard things, someone who was there when anyone needed him.  

I'm sorry we lost touch, and I'm glad to hear that he never changed and continued to connect with people in a deep and meaningful way. He was wild and true to himself; one in a million.  The world was lucky to have him for the short time that we did.

Dawne and Joe, I'm sorry for your loss.  It was beautiful to get to see his incredible love for you in photos on Facebook throughout the years.  It was evident how happy you made him.

There are people who come into your life, sometimes for a short time, who you never forget and think about with love, admiration, and gratitude for the rest of your life.  Jeremy was one of those people for me.  I met Jer when I was 16, and just starting out on my musical journey.  I was taking piano, fiddle, and guitar lessons at Broadway Musical and Jeremy was my guitar teacher and they were some of the happiest and best weeks of my life.  Jeremy taught me for 2 years before he moved away for college, and we always kept in touch, meeting up for coffee (and then beers when I was of age) to catch up when he was home.  I loved listening to his stories and talking about music with him- time would always fly when we got together and my sides would hurt from laughing.  Inevitably he would always tell me to pull out my fiddle so we could jam.  

Jeremy was relentless in his encouragement of every musical pursuit I had.  I was always hard on myself and nervous, especially in those early years, but his words and encouragement would ring in my head whenever my self doubt would nag at me and I’d carry on.  I have thought of him, and his sister Mel, often in the years that followed for me musically with gratitude and love.  

I know I am not unique to this “Jeremy effect”.  Jer was a beacon of positivity, a cheerleader to everyone around him, and a loyal, wonderful friend full of life.  He was always one of those people I just assumed I’d reconnect with in a few years when “life calmed down a bit”.  I am just devastated to hear of his passing, and my deepest condolences are with his wife Dawne, son Joe, sister Melanie, brother Nathan, and grieving family and friends. 

Thank you Jer for living with us when you did, we will never forget you.

I first met Jeremy in writer’s craft class in high school where I soon learned he could certainly hold his own in a wide range of topics.   He was extremely talented in playing guitar, not only in his technique but in the feeling behind what he was doing as well.  I remember him not liking to sing, and didn't like the sound of his own voice.  But among friends at his cabin parties we would sort of nudge him to sing through the odd one here and there.  He eventually pushed himself and gained confidence to sing outside of his own circle of friends at coffee shops and other events and eventually went on to releasing his CD which I can't express enough that feeling of watching him get up there.  After seeing him struggle with what I knew he felt, he pushed through that and overcame it.  He had a lot of integrity in what he did, and I was fortunate to get to work with him later in 2010 where I saw this integrity and conviction come through yet again.   

In the late 90’s I decided, very last minute, to meet up with him and some friends to see Grit Laskin and others play the Lunenburg Folk Festival.  I had never been to Nova Scotia before.  Or eaten mussels, which we cooked over our campsite stove in the pouring rain as we decided to either get soaked (Jer) or huddle under tarps (the rest of us) as it poured rain.  We had a few shots of tequila, ate some mussels and then walked down to the Knots pub.  It was a blast.  Little did I know, a few years later, just north of Lunenburg, I would go through my own apprehensions trying to sing on stage, playing in a band in Louisburg.  Like I say, Jer was a massive influence on me.  He was very intelligent, had a great sense of humor, integrity and confidence in who he was.  I am still trying to process the fact of him being gone, and despite the apprehension of writing this, I thought I might as well get up and push through it anyways.  My heart goes out to Dawne, Joe, Nathan, Mel, his folks and all his family.

I guess you could say Jeremy was one of the first persons I ever met since we were born in the same hospital room!  This encounter for obvious reasons I cannot remember however when we rejoined forces in kindergarten I remember thinking that I liked this funny guy with a big laugh, something that never wavered over the years. Not only was his musical talent evident at a young age, but perhaps more befitting, his ability to light up a room and bring a smile to your face was even more pronounced.

I remember the good times we had in the cabin or playing chess or poker for pennies or how we made the best of the rather brutal tree farm job.   I remember how well read you were and particularly your love for Jack Kerouac.  I remember that first summer when we got to know one another.  It was the summer of '94.  Just 15 and you already were versed in the history of blues and rag and able to play it on guitar.  It astounded me that someone so young had these interests.  You expanded my musical horizons by introducing me to these traditions and also by directing me to Dan LaBrash as a guitar teacher so that I went on to have a bit of a music career.   

Jeremy, you went before your time and I regret that we drifted into only very occasional contact and find it strange that I cannot write or call.   

My heartfelt condolences to Dawne, your parents, sister, brother  and grandparents.  Condolences also to your son, who I unfortunately never met.  All of these people and those in your wider circle are in my thoughts.

Memories of the wee guy with the sparkly eyes and big smile to the big guy with the sparkly eyes and big smile.  Jer was a joy to all who knew him.  A big bright personality and infectious laugh.....his quick wit and entertaining life stories, most at his own expense.....a talent and joy of music that he loved to  share. I was fortunate to have called Jeremy my friend for the last 16 years.  I will treasure all the conversations, pints and truly funny stories we shared together. Along the road sauntered 8 year old Jeremy, a big smile on his face and not a care in the world.Once a week Jeremy would come to our building site to collect empty beer bottles and him and his dad would take them to the beer store for the refund.  Jeremy’s math skills actually improved over the summer.

Jeremy was a real people person with a huge personality and a big heart who loved his family, friends and playing his guitar. 
Many a gathering was had at the farm and cabin where Jeremy and his guitar playing friends would be the main attraction.
Our heartfelt condolences, thoughts and prayers are with the Woodland family.

I lived with Jeremy at college. He was one of the best parts of my college experience.  He was a good friend and an excellent musician. It was always a blast when we would have a party and Jeremy would get out his guitar. He was a welcoming and friendly person to almost every person he met. I am happy to have known him if only for a short time.

My deepest condolences to Jeremy's family.  He was as genuine of a man one can ever be.  Full of laughter, spirit and a solid handshake of friendship.  I will toast to Jer while sitting on the dock watching the sunset.  He will never be forgotten.   Jam on my friend.

One of the earliest memories I have as a kid was running into jers arms at the farm and him throwing me up on his shoulders and giving me the biggest bear hug I would ever experience. I was always in awe of him when he was playing the guitar and it always made me happy hearing him play. Jer will always be my big cousin and I’ll always love him. 

I remember Jeremy as larger than life. He was bold, funny and honest. A man who marched to the beat of his own drum. And for the love he had for his family.  Grief is the price we pay for love. And he was loved.  Rest easy Jeremy.  Fran and Bert.

I met Jeremy when he was  only 18 through our love for music and guitar playing. We both taught music in Orangeville and played some great shows together. I recall so many fun years out at the cabin, at Summerfolk, the farmhouse and many other troubles we'd get into. 
Jeremy was a great guitar player, entertainer with an infectious laugh.  He will be dearly missed by so many people. I am still in shock. 
RIP my friend. 

Jeremy was such a stand up man. I have very fond memories of him from Summerfolk and the time that he drove out to celebrate my 19 birthday.  He had such a great smile and his laugh was contagious.  My condolences to his family. The world has lost a wonderful man.

You will be so missed by everyone who knew you Jer. I will be forever grateful for the memories I have of you from cabin parties, Summerfolk, and Cambrian College. Singing along to your incredible guitar accompaniments is an extra special memory I hold dear to my heart, as well as sharing in your awesome (and often hilariously inappropriate!) sense of humour. You will always be deeply loved and missed.

Also had very fond memories of my nephew Jeremy , from the time I first babysat him to the great man, husband, father he became. Always enjoyed his guitar playing . He will truly be missed in our family . Rip my nephew.

Jeremy was among my best and oldest friends. I have known him since the late 1980s, but it was in the late 1990s that our friendship really became what it is today. We shared so many good times and life experiences…all of which are great memories today. 
Jeremy loved his family. He loved his friends.  He made any room better just by being in it. He made our lives better by being in them.
