

Our family is sad to announce that Jessie Mackie, formerly of Hamilton, died peacefully after a long bout with Alzheimer's at the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf, Barrie, on Sunday, April 11, 2010 in her 90th year. Much loved Mom of Jessie Reid (Robert), Bill Armes (Lorna), Helen MacMillan (Al) and George. Cherished Granny of Patricia Reid, Robin and Jim Gravill, Vance and Julie Merrill, Darlene and Bryce McDermott, Jessica and Joe Renwick, Brodie Armes, Nancy and Shawn Avery and Lee and Carey Thompson. Great Granny of Jessica and Taylor Gravill, Evan and Alexa McDermott, Emma and Liam Renwick, Taylor and John Avery, Alex and Matthew Thompson. Also surviving is Jessie's sister-in-law Irene (Armes) James. Jessie was the last surviving sibling of 14. Predeceased by her first husband Dennis Stephen Armes, her second husband John Alexander Mackie, her son Larry Armes, infant daughter Irene Evelyn Armes, daughter-in-law Cathy Armes, grandson Welby Armes and her son-in-law David Merrill. Jessie was a kind and thoughtful person who had a lifetime involvement with the deaf community. She suffered a great loss when her best friend Gladys Richardson, passed away in 1994 and her dear sister Beatrice Elliott in 1999. The family will receive friends at the TRUSCOTT, BROWN & DWYER FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1309 King Street East (at the Delta, opposite Gage Park) 905-549-2417 on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service for Jessie will take place from the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with interment at Woodland Cemetery.
