Joan Frances Horne (nee Malham) was called by God from her home to His in her 94th year. Although suddenly for all her loved ones, He decided she had finished the race, and accomplished His plan for her. That plan included being a devoted wife of 46 years to her late husband, Maxwell, and a one of a kind Mum to her daughters and sons-in-law, Gail Purmalis (Art), Tara Nagy (Ken), Lori Vacca (late husband Armando), and Lisa Arnold (Chris). She had the joy of loving many grandchildren and great grandchildren, Abe (Saeward), Jeff (Julie), Josh (Laura), Erik (Michelle), Jana (Jibran), Alexandra (Josh), Corey (Heather), Lucas (Angela), Addison, Jacob and Isaac. She leaves a wonderful legacy to her great grandchildren Maxwell, Isabelle, William, Adam, Lillian, Ella, Nathan, and sweet baby “Arnold” soon to arrive.
Joan grew up in the Bartonville area of Hamilton, raised by her late parents Percival and Edith Malham, and was a dear sister to her late brother Bill (Helen), and Betty and her late husbands Mel and Jack. She was Auntie Jo to many nieces and a nephew.
Joan had many loving friends, many who have gone to their rest, and many who will mourn her passing. She was a long- time member of St. Michael’s Anglican Parish in Hamilton and served on the altar guild and in the choir for years. To all who knew her, Joan can only be described with the characteristics of “goodness” and “sweetness”. She oozed it. She lived her life selflessly loving and genuinely caring for others. Her faith sustained her before and after the passing of her husband, with whom she is now reunited. God listened and granted her prayer to be able to stay in her marital home until He took her to His heavenly home. For that we will always be thankful.
Special thanks to Joan’s caregivers, especially Cinzia, and other nurses who fell in love with her sharp mind and wit, as they engaged her on a daily basis. Be at peace as you now enjoy the company of the angels, saints and with our Lord. Your ongoing prayers for your family and friends are coveted as you begin your life eternally in glory. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind can conceive what the Lord has prepared for those who love Him” 1 Corinthians 2:9
