JOHN H. MILLS - Peacefully left his family August 9, 2011, in his 99th year at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton. Born in Hull, England, parents John and Florence Mills. Survived by Lillian his wife for 77 years, sons John (Marilyn), Leonard (Joyce deceased), Harry (Diane), Warren (Betsy deceased) and daughters Beverley (Bill), Barbara (John), Joan (Tom). Remembered also by his 30 grand children, 35 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. On his behalf his family gives sincere thanks for the exemplary care and attention given by Dr. Alistair Ingram and the staff at St. Joseph’s Kidney/Dialysis Centre, Stoney Creek. To the patients at the Dialysis Centre the concern and acts of kindness you displayed were his strength. Also a special thanks to Valerie from her “Gramps”. John was a man of strength, humility, wisdom and humour with a true love and interest in all those that he met. John founded and built a successful lighting business, Mills Lighthouse, in the former Canada Bread building on Ashley Street, Hamilton. Although John and Lillian travelled to many lands his most remembered visit was to the Le Touret Commonwealth Military Cemetery on The Somme, France to the gravesite of Private John H. Mills, his father’s, whom he had never gotten to know. John was also a keen gardener and observer of the changes in nature that each season would bring. As he wished, cremation has taken place. In celebration of his life, a gathering of friends and family will be held at St. Columba Presbyterian Church, 1540 Main Street East, Hamilton on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
“Dad, we are saddened by you leaving us
Comforted that you are now in God’s hands
You comfort us with the memories you have left
For that we can but say ‘Thank you’.”
“Sleep well my love, Lillian”
