Beloved wife of James “Jim” Griffin for 66 years. Loving mother of Kathy (Andy Cimolai), Peggy (Andy Shaw), Jim E. Griffin (Joanne Glen) and Paula (Andy Marshall). Cherished grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 11. Dear sister of three brothers, David (Terry), Ron (Nancy) and Paul (Sharon). Predeceased by her parents Helen and Jake Wollersheim.
Joyce was born in Sweet Grass, Montana on March 28, 1936. She met the love of her life, James H. Griffin and married on August 1, 1957 in Coutts, Alberta. They settled in Hamilton where they raised their four children and hosted countless family, friends and boarders.
Joyce’s greatest passion was her family, followed closely by her interest in healthcare. After having her four children, she began her exceptional journey in nursing. She attended and received her RN diploma at the Chedoke Campus in Hamilton. Interestingly, she was one of the first married women to be accepted into the program. After graduating, Joyce worked at the Henderson (now Juravinski) Hospital in the Emergency department.
Several years later, she began the arduous commute to the University of Toronto, while raising four young children, and graduated with her BSN with Honours. She eventually left the hospital to teach nursing with Mohawk College in Hamilton and Brantford.
After retiring, Joyce and Jim spent over 25 years in Florida and made many wonderful friends and memories.
Without a doubt, after a life well lived, Joyce’s greatest legacy is her deep love and devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her beloved brothers. Her unconditional love was an exceptional gift to experience.
You will be loved, remembered and missed by all of us.
