

Karen will be profoundly missed by her partner, Gary Curtis, her siblings Myrna Willrich (Brian), Brian Riess, Barry Riess (Diane), and Kevin Riess, as well as by her late sister Lucinda Harbottle. She was born on December 16, 1957, in Hamilton, Ontario, to parents Arthur and Eileen Riess. Karen will also be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephew: Kyle (Cindra), Brittany (Andrew) and Emily (JD).
Karen dedicated 20 years of service as a Newspaper Production Coordinator at The Hamilton Spectator, later retiring after another 20 years with The Burlington Post. She had a lifelong passion for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and was a devoted fan, eventually becoming the President of the Hamilton Ti-Cats Fan Club.
A long-time member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church in Hamilton, Karen was known for her warm smile and sense of humor. She was actively involved in church life, singing in the choir, volunteering for community events and serving on parish council. Karen was also a talented graphic designer, generously offering her skills to non-profit organizations and charities in Hamilton and Port Stanley, a Lake Erie village where she lived in retirement.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue E, on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, 1188 Fennell Avenue E, on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
