Charlie was born in 1923 in Lithuania and emigrated to Canada following WWII. He worked in the bush as a lumberjack until he joined Stelco where he worked for 38 years. I bought my 2nd VW from Charlie... it was a wonderful car and Charlie would always fix any problems for me. Charlie was a good man and husband to Alina and we enjoyed a great many dinner parties together.

My deepest condolences. I have fond memories of Ponas Zilvytis. He was a good friend of my father, Bronius Dirse. They both had an avid love of fishing and hunting as well as their deep love for their Lithuanian heritage. Ponas Zilvytis natured my first car, a VW Beetle and kept me driving VWs all through my life. Aciu Ponas Zilvytis.

Ben & Doreen have known Charlie and Alina since 1972 when Ben & Alina worked together briefly in Hamilton. Since then a strong friendship has endured with many visits to their home where Charlie always made sure one had a full glass. He was a kind soul with a very powerful handshake and we will miss him. Our sincere condolences go out to Alina and the entire Zilvytis family.

Charlie as a VW Beetle ace mechanic and bodyshop pro who put together or remade a Beetle from the one he purchased that was not running and in real sad shape to a beautiful looking VW Beetle that purred. Once the VW Beetles were no longer available came the VW Rabbits out of his place. He had talent and he was strong, he lifted the VW Beetles around the yard with ease. We bought numerous cars from him and he kept them running. It was his baritone voice that boomed when he greeted us and his powerful handshake to make you feel welcomed. His heart was huge, bigger and stronger than his grip. We will truly miss him.
