Larry H. Cowan

Dr. Cowan, Larry H. passed peacefully in his sleep at home in Hamilton, Ontario in his 92nd year. Larry was born on October 4, 1926 to Luella and Jack Cowan in Charleston, West Virginia where at the age of 5 his family moved to the London Ontario area where he attended public school then the University of Western Ontario medical school where he graduated in 1951. He moved to the Hamilton ‘mountain’ where he set up his very successful family practice where he cared for his large number of patients for 51 years. Larry was an avid golfer and skier and during his retirement he took great pride in his family and read voraciously.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Jane Cowan (nee Devereux), his three children John Cowan (Sharon), Susan Baranas (Ed) and Jeffrey Cowan (Kindy) and his seven grandchildren Christopher, Matthew, Aaron, Natalie, Vanessa, Rebecca and Leah, his brother John Robert Cowan, sister-in-law Jean Cowan (nee Burr), nephews Brad and Doug Cowan and his niece Jane McIntyre (nee Devereux).

Visitation will occur Friday May 11, 2018 at Cresmount Funeral Home – Fennell Chapel from 2-5 p.m. with no service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hamilton Cancer Assistance Program. The family would like to thank all of the dedicated staff and volunteers who cared for Larry over the past several months.
