It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Laura Elmore Barnett into the arms of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 7, 2019. Most beloved and adored wife of Alfonso Barnett. Loving Mother of Marcia Holland (Mark, deceased), Trevor Barnett (Mandy), and Richard Barnett (Kathy). Devoted grandmother of Courtney, Nicholas; Meghan (Justin), Alaina (Zach, fiancé), Jordan (Whitney); Alex, Brock, and Lindsay. Caring great-grandmother of eight. Treasured sister of Vernal (deceased), Gladstone (deceased), Donald (deceased), Urselin, Calma, Joyce, and Sorita. Beloved aunt to nieces and nephews in Canada, United States, England and Jamaica. Born in Jamaica, Laura later immigrated to England, where she met and married the love of her life, her future husband, Alfonso. In 1972 they immigrated to Canada with their three children. Laura then pursued a career in nursing, working at St Peter's Hospital in Hamilton for many years until her retirement. Laura was a long-standing member of Bethel Gospel Tabernacle. Her faith was an important part of her life. She was a loyal friend and trusted confidante to many, always giving honest advice and opinion. Laura was happiest when surrounded by her family at the dinner table full of favourite dishes she had prepared. Nurturing was the gift that she shared in abundance, and this was especially evident in her loving marriage of 61 years. "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband praises her also." Proverbs 31:28. Visitation will take place on Sunday, September 15, 2019 (this would have been her 83rd birthday), 1-3pm and 6-8pm at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 16 at 11am, at Bethel Gospel Tabernacle, 1355 Upper Wellington Street, Hamilton. Donations to Bethel Gospel Tabernacle Bus Ministry, The ALS Society of Canada, or The Heart & Stroke Foundation, would be sincerely appreciated.

Laura was a great woman..I sure miss her smiling face! I haven’t scene her since I’ve moved to Florida but I think of her often..while I’m working especially! I start to laugh as I remember her watching me clean her house to make sure I didn’t miss a spot! We had some great talks and she gave me lots of great advice.

My condolences to the family

Rest In Peace Laura

Our condolences to Uncle Alfonso, Marcia, Trevor, Richard and the rest of the family. So very sorry about the passing of Aunty Elmore. She was a wonderful lady who was so loving and caring and so full of life....and her laugh was something else! She will be truly missed. Both her and mummy (Jessie) shared such a truly special friendship since their England days and I know mum is really going to miss her & Uncle going over to Jamaica every year.
She is now resting peacefully in the arms of the Lord, free of pain and suffering. RIP Aunty. Will always love you.
Love from Joy, Dale & Jamie xx

“And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

Indeed, my dear aunt has met God’s requirements and more during the time of her stewardships of life among us. I have had a particular fondness for her because of her warm and endearing persona. Family was everything to her. As children we always looked forward to the visits to Jamaica by her and our dear uncle Alf. She was full of life and energy and you always knew she cared. I must confess, I have never seen her other than in a cheerful positive mood. She was a joy to be around. I cannot forget a trip they made to Orlando, some years ago, and how terrified she was of the “Back to the Future” ride at the Universal Studios theme park.

This pass June, despite her failing health, we had a wonderful afternoon together. She was full of so much joy and happiness, having a house full of family members around her.
Finally, I have always been impressed by her love and care for uncle Alf over the years and her commitment to her marriage vow of ”in sickness and in health”. I have also appreciated her interest and concern for my mom’s welfare.

To my cousins Marcia, Trevor and Richard and your families, she has left you with a wonderful legacy of memories to cherish and heritage to continue.

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise”...Prov.31:30-31
