She is predeceased by parents Haralambos and Archantoula “Toula”, and sister Loucianna. Linda is survived by the love of her life, her daughter, Christina. She is also survived by sisters Catherine (Tarman) and Ellen and her son Adam.
A graduate from the University of Waterloo in Psychology, Linda initially began her post-secondary studies in Computer Science, a result of her love for maths and sciences, until she discovered her passion for the field of Psychology. She began her 25-year career at Child & Adolescence Services, where she immersed herself in work with high needs children and adolescents with significant emotional, learning, and behavioral problems. Her subsequent tenure, as member of the interdisciplinary Psychology department, at McMaster University Medical Center, fed her deep interest in neuropsychological functioning. She also participated in research endeavours such as a project on MS. In 1988 Linda brought over 10 years of experience in mental health and hospital settings to the Psychological Services team at the Hamilton Wentworth Board of Education. There, her knowledge of childhood clinical syndromes, treatment expertise, and knowledge of systems beyond education, enriched her services to students and schools. In addition to her predilection for neuropsychology another area of focus was ADHD. Some of the contributions she made to the team during her tenure include:
- Member of the Crisis response team
- Co-authored various documents in the department
- Participated in various department and system committees
- Provided Inservices
- Participated in panel discussions about children’s issues, inside and outside of the Board
Linda’s daughter was her pride and joy. She cared deeply about providing unconditional love, support, and a variety of life, cultural, and educational experiences for her. Every choice she made was thoughtfully and deliberately considered. Endlessly supportive, she could often be found sitting rink side, at the baseball diamond, or attending the National Ballet with Christina, among countless other wonderful memories. Her daughter was always at the forefront of her focus and energy and she did a remarkable job raising her.
Linda’s love for walks is well known. She also cultivated a beautiful garden, prepared incredible food, loved ballet, theater, dancing, and sunny days on the water. Her positive and loving demeanor never left her nor did her happiness at being with Christina.
In 2002 Linda suffered significant injuries in a motor vehicle accident. Despite significant pain and debilitating injuries, she continued to demonstrate endless courage, persistence, strength and determination for the next 18 years. Special thank you to True Davidson Acres, sitters Henreita and Nida, and the staff at TRI 5 South for their support and loving care of Linda.
Linda was an incredible woman – smart, caring, and loving – her loss has left a tremendous hole that can never be filled. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but her legacy of love will live on. Our only consolation is that she is finally at peace and without pain; hopefully dancing up a storm as she watches over us with tremendous love.
A celebration of life will be held in future.
For those who wish, donations can be made in Linda’s honour to TRI’s Geriatric Rehabilitation Program via the Toronto Rehab Foundation.
