Lydia Gapic

Preceded in death by her loving husband, Milutin. She was born on March 3rd, 1931, in Veliko Srediste, Serbia (the former Yugoslavia) where she grew up in a large loving family, one of nine children. She met her future husband, Milutin, in Vrsac, married in 1953, and emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario in June 1966. She worked at McMaster University for many years and built a loving home with Milutin and their six children.

Lydia was an active member of People’s Church for 49 years where she was very much loved and respected. More than anything, Lydia enjoyed the company and fellowship of her extended family and friends. She loved life and frequent family gatherings. The house almost always rang with song and the aroma of her amazing cooking filled her home with so much love. Lydia was an avid gardener and for many years knitted for Sew on Fire Ministry, an organization that provides humanitarian aid and gift items for the purpose of sharing God’s love.

Lydia is survived by her six devoted children: Robert (Catherine), Milan (Vera), Zdenka, Sam (Andrea), Dan (Angelique), and Tommy. Her grandchildren include Lydia (Jason), Christina (Patrick), Tanya (Mark), Tina (Rob), Tammy (Joe), Tiffany, Charles (Sayeh), Rachel (Chris), Scott (Catie), Tarryn (Tom), Andrew (Mengxu), and Marcus (Vannessa). Her great grandchildren include Lily and Milena; James and Lola; Avram and Aria; Aidan, Ethan, and Robbie; Owen and Liam; Hannah and Bryson; and Sloane and Noa.

Visitation will be held at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Avenue E. Hamilton, Ontario on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Service will be held at Peoples Church's, 240 Cumberland Ave. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 11am. Interment to follow at Mt. Hamilton Cemetery

Sincere appreciation and thanks to the staff of St. Elizabeth’s Bay Shore, who cared diligently and lovingly for our mother for many years. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sew on Fire Ministry would be greatly appreciated.
