She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Donald, and son Jim (Gail). Sons Michael (Lora), David, and Paul (Kelsey), grandchildren Ryan, Lauren, Daniel, Claire, Samantha, Gillian, Scott, and 7 great grandchildren will all dearly miss her.
Madeline grew up in Hamilton during the Great Depression years, and while working at Bell Telephone, met young repairman Donald, who told his mother immediately that he had met the girl he was going to marry. Together they raised 4 boys on East 25th street on the Hamilton "mountain" , starting off without a car, relying on grocery and milk deliveries, and stoking the coal-fired furnace. All four sons graduated from McMaster University. When Don retired early from Bell, they moved to Alberta and enjoyed active retirement years traveling the mountains and west coast.
After Don's passing in 2006, Jean returned to Hamilton to spend time with her family and friends there, and was a much loved resident at St Elizabeth's retirement community. Jean requested no memorial service and her ashes will rest alongside Don and Jim in Calgary. Donations to Juravinski Hospital in Hamilton may be made in her memory.
