Predeceased by his loving wife Luise, survived by his daughter Judy and his two grandsons Russell (Rachel, great-grandchildren Logan and Ashlyn) and Danny (Emily).
Manfred was born in Waldshut-Tiengen, Germany. After marrying his beloved and welcoming their only daughter, they immigrated to Canada in 1957 to embark on a wonderfully prosperous life and become the shining definition of a true immigrant success story.
Pursuing his ultimate goal of providing a more enriched life for his wife and beautiful daughter, he applied his trade and began employment with Accurate Mold as a Tool and Die Maker. His hard-work, business ethics, and gifted-mind granted him to eventually make partner within the company. Thus, allowing him to successfully enjoy early retirement in his dream-home, nestled in the beautiful Erin countryside which they had been establishing since the 1960’s. This little slice of heaven is where the family enjoyed beautiful summers by the pond and cherished Christmas seasons with friends and family from the “old country”.
Lovingly known as “Opa” to his family, he would always eagerly engage in their many sporting events and life interests with unconditional support and enthusiasm. Fred was also a man of many hobbies, interests and talents: Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, landscaping, brewing his “homemade hootch” (wine) and of course endlessly tinkering in his extensive workshop with his exceptionally inventive mind. Notoriously known as a “McGuyver” around the house, he utilized his amazing resourcefulness and creativity to customize his home and appliances along with meticulous organization and practicality.
Always the great storyteller, Fred reflected: “My father once told me to always carry a pocket-knife and a piece of rope”, something he always maintained his entire life, “Although he never did tell me what the rope was for.” Typically delivered with his delightful wit and trademark Bavarian delivery. The importance of a sharpened blade was always proudly noted to anyone who would listen, which he meant literally but also figuratively, as referring to one's mind. So, you better believe his grandsons were always gifted with a newly sharpened pocket knife every couple of years!
In his later years, Fred loved to travel the world with his lifelong love, Luise, where they whale-watched in Alaska, enjoyed the sandy beaches of the Caribbean and of course revisit their roots in Germany. More recently, he would become an “Opa-Opa”, welcoming two wonderful great-grandchildren into his loving world.
His warmth, integrity, renowned generosity, pragmatism and sense of humour will truly be missed. He was a rock of stability, and will be remembered as a kind and caring man who loved his family more than anything in the world.
We love you so much Opa! You may be gone, but your love and remarkable character will never be forgotten.
