Marija Saric

It is with broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, baka and prabaka, surrounded by the love of her family on October 22, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital, 10 days shy of celebrating her 88th birthday.

Marija was born in Visoće, Croatia on November 1, 1937 to Andrija and Mare Stipanovic (nee Lubinic). She made the journey from Germany to Canada in 1964 with her husband and daughter, in the hopes of starting a new life.

It brings us joy in knowing that mom is reunited with her beloved husband Stanko Saric (2021).

Marija is survived by her children, Angela Biljan (Stjepan), Jadranka ‘Audrey’ Savelli (Anthony) and Mike Saric. She will be missed by her precious grandchildren, Nicholas (Ivana) and Robert Biljan, Richard (Ellis) and David Savelli and Marko Saric as well as her great-grandchildren Eva and Luka Biljan, Klara and Julian Savelli. Will be remembered by her sister, Dana (Pero) Čosić. She is pre-deceased by her parents Andrija and Mare, step-mom Dragica Stipanović, and her siblings Janko (late Ana) Stipanovic, Dragica (late Antun) Stančić, Anka (late Ilija) Blažević and Nikola Stipanovic (Viktorija). She will be missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada, Croatia and USA.

Marija enjoyed the simple things in life; a quiet and steady presence always there for her family. It is said God’s reward for surviving your own children, is the gift of grandchildren. She dedicated herself and her time to raising her grandchildren and making sure they never went without. We will miss the wonderful meals that always filled her kitchen with warmth and aromas of home.

A special thank you to the staff at St. Peter’s Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion during a difficult time.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 from 4- 7 PM at Markey Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street E., Hamilton. Rosary will be said at 4:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Cemetery, 681 Mud Street E., Hamilton.
