We met Mario for the first time just shortly after he and Barb started dating and they came to visit us in Ottawa.  Within 10 minutes of Mario, the thirty-something bachelor, walking in our front door, our five kids, aged 7 and under, had him on the floor and were climbing all over him.  Mario was laughing and clearly enjoying the kids.  We knew right then that Mario would be a wonderful husband to Barb and an excellent father.  He was definitely a catch!

Mario had a great dry sense of humour that we loved.  He was happiest when he was entertaining, whether it was cooking a fabulous meal or creating a new cocktail behind his bar.  We have so many great memories of family and friends gathering in Barb and Mario's home.

Mario was truly a good man.  He was an adoring husband to Barb and an amazing father to Adam and Adriana.  He was our brother-in-law but also a friend.  We are sad that he left us so early but we are so grateful to have had the pleasure of knowing him.  We will miss you Mario.

My Dear Mario,

We had eighteen wonderful years together, filled with love, laughter and happiness. I thank you for sixteen years of marriage and our two beautiful children Adriana, and Adam.

I will never understand why our time together was cut short, but I know how blessed we were to have you in our lives for the time we did have together. You have touched so many people, in so many different ways because you were just such a good guy.

My heart is broken and I miss you so much.

I miss your beautiful smile, sense of humour and the ability you had to make everyone around you happy.

I miss hearing the sound of the garage door opening and knowing that in a few seconds you would be walking through the door.

I miss your kisses - always 3, never 2 or 4.

I miss falling asleep with your arms around me and waking up with you beside me.

I miss our wonderful vacations and the times we just sat around doing nothing.

I miss the way you took care of the children and myself, always making sure we were okay.

You were the most amazing friend, brother, son, husband and father.

I promise you that I will do my best to take care of Adriana and Adam and always remind them of how lucky they were to have such a great dad. They know how proud you were of them and that you loved them with all your heart.

Barb, when Bev told me the news of Mario's passing, I said, Our Mario? Yea, that's what I said, was her reply. Mario was one of us in the Ontario Provincial Standards Unit. Someone we could count on, share a joke with, have a coffee, and poke fun at each other. A good guy to work with and have around.
When I think of Mario, I think of you too, Barb. In particular, one night in a not so jovial time in my life when you and Mario invited me to your home for dinner and a quiet evening of conversation and laughter. I recall you and I ganging up on Mario, as we seemed to do when Mario and I were with you, picking on him and his little idiosyncrasies. I remember the fun I had that night. I forgot about everything else for that time. That night made a difference to me, big time! Several times after, I told Mario how appreciative I was for that evening and you two. I don't know if he told you. Thanks.
I just want you to know that I have been thinking a lot about Mario, you, Adam (the younger one), Adriana, and Adam (the older one). I want to tell you and the others that Mario was a great husband, dad, and son, and for me a good friend. I will miss him.

It's so sad to hear Mario passed away so early in life. He was a good friend and co-worker, always generous with his help and support.

Mario and I worked together at the Ministry of Transportation for over 10 years.  As Head of the Ontario Provincial Standards group, he was our expert in construction specifications and drawings.  Mario had a very strong work ethic but always made each day bright and enjoyable.

His camaraderie and office repartee will be missed by all.
