Born in Gagliano Aterno, Italy, on Valentine’s Day, 1938, Mario immigrated to Canada at a young age and built a life grounded in hard work, family, and tradition. He dedicated over 30 years of service to Dofasco, taking pride in providing for those he loved.
Mario was predeceased by his beloved wife, Franca, his parents Antonio and Antonietta De Angelis, his in-laws Eugenio and Nipa Chiaravalle, his sister Rita (brother-in-law Rivoli), and his brother-in-law Antonio Chiaravalle.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter through his children Marcello (Silvia), Lisa, and Tina (Raj Alagappan); and his cherished grandchildren Marcus, John-Paul, Daina (Will), Sabrina, and Nicholas, who lovingly knew him as "Nonno." He will also be missed by his brother-in-law and sister in-law Domenic and Rita Chiaravalle, and by many nieces and nephews.
A true Italian at heart, Mario found joy in life’s simple pleasures—his homemade wine and tomato sauce, the bounty of his well-tended garden, and the conversations that came with each visit. He will be fondly remembered for his strong opinions, quick wit, and the way he always had something to say. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and for many years a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Mario’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of Idlewyld Manor for their compassionate care during these past two years.
Memorial Visitation will take place at the Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 10 am until 11 am. The Funeral Liturgy Service will follow in the Cresmount Chapel at 11 am.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
