Marta Korchak

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Marta on December 12, 2014 at the age of 89. Beloved wife of Dmytro for 69 years. Cherished mother of Tamara Connor (Jim), Luba Radke (Brian) and Taras Korchak (Beate). Adoring Baba of grandchildren Joanna (Jeremy), Chris (Jen), Andrea, Whitney and great-grandchildren Aiden, Poppy, Kara and Julia. Predeceased by her parents and brother Roman in Ukraine. Survived by extended family in Ukraine and the United States. Marta was a longtime active parishioner of Holy Spirit Church and more recently Ukrainian Church of the Resurrection. Her involvement in the Women's Canadian League for the Liberation of Ukraine included committee work and serving as President of the Executive. She was a proud Canadian but maintained her strong Ukrainian Heritage and passed on the love of her homeland and valued traditions to her children and grandchildren. Even in her most difficult times a visit from grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy. She cherished and respected friends and family and enjoyed sharing her life stories with them. She will be greatly missed. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be celebrated at the Ukrainian Church of the Resurrection, 821 Upper Wentworth Street, on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Marta’s memory, may be made to a charity of choice.
