Joan was the beloved wife of the late William Hutcheson (2001), with whom she shared 42 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her mother and her brother, Patrick Walsh. Joan earned a Certificate of Gerontology and CCIAM in Administration Management, which led to a distinguished career in public service. She served as Manager of the Canada Pension Plan for 30 years and later held a five-year position as General Manager of Haldimand Norfolk Senior Support Services. Through her exceptional leadership and management skills, Joan was deeply involved in numerous charitable organizations. She was a devoted member of Zonta International and the Zonta Club of Hamilton I, serving as Club President, Governor of District 4, a member of the Board of Zonta International, and Vice President.
She also served on the Board of the St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation of Hamilton. Joan played an integral role in establishing Interval House and was actively involved with Planned Parenthood and Bob Kemp Hospice. A passionate advocate for women, she found great fulfillment in these associations. Beyond her professional and volunteer commitments, Joan enjoyed life fully. She was an avid golfer and curler, and an accomplished pianist. Joan will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband, Bill.
In keeping with Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial visitation will be held at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Avenue E. on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For those who wish, donations in Joan’s memory for the causes she supported would be greatly appreciated
