Mary Lou shared over 45 years of love and companionship with her beloved husband, Joseph. She was a devoted mother to Diana (fiancé Joseph) and Robert (wife Erin), and an adored grandmother to Malone. Her sister Debbie (husband Dan), brother-in-law Tony (wife Susan), sister-in-law Maria (husband Tony), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends, will hold her memory dear. She was the cherished daughter of her late mother, Arlene, and respected daughter-in-law to Vittoria and the late Domenico.
Mary Lou was a woman of fiery spirit, pride, and independence. She was a vocal advocate for human rights, always ready to stand up for a good cause. Her time as president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation was filled with dedication and hard work, where she fought tirelessly for her fellow members.
A lover of the outdoors, Mary Lou took joy in her flower garden, always delighted by the visiting hummingbirds and butterflies. She enjoyed her time at the cottage, and was always ready to party. An avid runner, she frequently participated in charity races, often accompanied by her daughter. Mary Lou's vibrant personality, her ability to make keen observations, and her unforgettable character made her truly one-of-a-kind.
Visitation will take place at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East, on Monday, January 15, from 5-8 pm. The Funeral Service is scheduled in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 16, 2023, at 1:30 pm, with interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkinson’s Society are greatly appreciated.
The legacy of Mary Lou's passion, love, and resilient spirit will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those she touched. While she will be profoundly missed, her memory will forever be cherished and remembered.
