It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and Nonno, Michele (Mike) De Rubeis on June 2, 2022, in his 95th year. Beloved husband of Maria (née Carretta) for 65 blessed years. Devoted father to his children Steve (Alina) and George (Joanne). Cherished Nonno of Michael (Sonia), David (Natalie), Felicia (Steven), Jacqueline (Daniel), Vanessa (Chris), and Celine (Aruuran). Proud Bisnonno of Julia, Maria, Stephen and Carina. Predeceased by his parents, Stefano and Laurina De Rubeis, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Antonio and Nice Carretta. He will be missed by many respected family members in Canada, Italy and the United States.
Mike immigrated to Canada from Gagliano Aterno, Italy in 1949. He had served in the Italian Military in northern Italy during WWII. Mike was a loyal employee of Stelco in the Shipping and Galvanize department as a team leader for 35 years. Throughout the years, Mike and Maria built a loving family and home, based on hard work and commitment. Through his wisdom, faith and humility, he had immense love for his family. Mike and Maria have been longtime parishioners of St. Luke's Roman Catholic Parish.
Mike had a great interest and respect for geography, history and world culture, and was a dedicated subscriber to the National Geographic. He also enjoyed nature, and caring for his beautiful and abundant garden.
We were blessed by Mike’s presence and love for many wonderful years, and his faith and memories will live on in our hearts. A private funeral service has taken place at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, officiated by Father Michael Francis of St. Luke’s.
Mike is laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery. Donations in honour of Mike’s memory can be made to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, Hamilton.
