It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Michael on August 11, 2022 in his 96th year. Predeceased by his wife Sophia (2011). Cherished father of Leslie (Andy), Olga (Ed) and Terry. Dido will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Mark (Katie), Adam, Shawn, Andrea, Evan and by his great-grandchildren Maxton and Lincoln.
Predeceased by his parents, Jurko and Katerina and sister and brother, all of Ukraine. In 1942, at the age of 15, Michael was forced from his home in Jezupil, Ukraine to work as a farm labourer near Munich. After the war, he was transferred to a displaced persons internment camp in Germany where he lived for 3 years. Michael emigrated to Canada in 1949 and arrived in Hamilton in 1950. He was active in the Ukrainian community as a member and supporter of the Ukrainian Youth Association and a long time parishioner of Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church. After working 40 years at Stelco, Michael enjoyed spending time with his family in retirement.

Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street, on Wednesday, August 17 from 5-8 pm with Panachyda at 7 pm. Funeral Service at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church, 15 St Olga Street, on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 10 am. Interment at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
