Always cheerful, always smiling, always willing to lend a helping hand. A very rare, genuine human being. Was absolutely stunned to hear of his passing. Rest In Peace, Nick!

Coach Nick,

Never have I had the great privilege of meeting such a genuinely kind, caring and cheerful person.
From the minute I met you, you made me feel like one of the team and you ensured that I knew how much faith you had in me.
I hope to make you proud this season, you will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

Rest in peace Coach Nick!

Thinking back to the time I shared with Nick, I'm reminded of one story that exemplifies who he was. When I started working at Lilly as a student in 2001, we visited the UofT library for a literature search. The UofT Science Library wasn't good enough, of course, so we drove to Mac.

He was dedicated, driven, remarkably intelligent, and passionate. He made a point of spreading joy always, often in the form of an extended "re-he-eeeeeeeally" a là Ace Ventura, in response to your data. I had the pleasure of working along side him for over a decade, often laughing, always learning.

I'm shocked and saddened to hear of Nick's passing. I wish my deepest condolences to Nick's family and friends.

You are missed.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news. I was fortunate to have met Nick in his LARL days at Eli Lilly (where he was instrumental in granting me a unique opportunity) His family, friends and colleagues past and present will remember a renaissance man of many gifts.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Toltl family at this difficult time. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Nick's passing. Nick was a colleague for many years at Eli Lilly. He had a way of making a mundane meeting into a fun meeting.........some of my favorite expressions that he often used were "Dollars to donuts", "I don't give a flying fadoo", and "Here's the thing"..He was a brilliant Scientist. He will be missed.
