Norman, or Norm to most of his friends, was a larger-than-life personality. He had a great sense of humour and loved to poke fun. Norman leaves behind his wife Shelley, who he started dating on Dec. 13, 1975. They married on Sep. 13, 1980, and rode the crazy married life together for over 45 years. He also leaves his always-loved sons, Jacob (Nichole) and Joshua (Keaghan, a.k.a. s#*t bag), and his greatest loves were his 4 grandchildren, Parker, Henry, Edith and Hudson, who all called him Gramps. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sister Patti, his mother-in-law June, sister-in-law Robin, brothers-in-law Peter, Mike, Peter Sr. and Dave, along with many nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces, relatives and his very large circle of friends. Norman was predeceased by his parents Alonzo (Tootie) and Rena, his father-in-law George, sister-in-law Sherri and most recently his sister Gloria.
Norman started working at Dofasco in 1978 and retired in May 2022. Before and after retirement Norman worked several part-time jobs, his favourite being a trolley driver at the waterfront during the summer months. In the 90’s Norman owned and operated J & J Limousine Service which he was extremely proud of, and it allowed him to chat and socialize with the many people who rode in his limo.
Norman was a great supporter of his boys when they were growing up playing hockey, baseball, volleyball, soccer and Taekwon-Doe and would often coach or assistant coach their teams. Some of his greatest enjoyment came from family vacations driving to Myrtle Beach almost yearly while the boys were growing up and to Disney World a few times. Next up was the first family cruise in 2005 which was then followed by many, many more cruises and great vacations and adventures. When his boys became interested in guitar, he jumped at the opportunity to join them and together they took music lessons. He would later enjoy going into his basement to ‘rip on his drums’.
Norman loved talking and chatting with anyone and everyone, but his freedom came from riding his motorcycle. He was a cautious and careful driver but would love to ride as much as he could for as long as he could. Norman was proud of his birthplace, Digby, NS, and delighted in the times he was able to “go out east”.
Family and friends will be welcomed at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. E., on Saturday May 30, to celebrate Norman’s life. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider an in-memoriam donation to Thoracic Surgical Robotics-Dr. Waël Hanna at St. Joseph’s Foundation or the Cancer Assistance Program or a charity of your choice.
“May your final ride be easy, the road stretch far and wide, and may your trusted bike guide you safely home to the ultimate destination.”
