Olha came to Canada in January 1949 from Stryhanci by way of Germany, Italy and England. A remarkable woman who was orphaned at the age of one, was taken to German work camps at the age of 14, endured devastating wartime turmoil and yet had a positive outlook and a passionate love for her Ukrainian heritage. Her Ukrainian Catholic faith in God gave her the strength to always move ahead. Mama loved her family above all and enjoyed large family gatherings at Christmas Eve, Easter and the family pizza night. She very much enjoyed her garden, the beautiful flower beds and the bountiful harvest from her vegetable garden. She was very involved with St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, responsible for the organization of the sacristy area. Olha will be dearly missed and loved always. In her later years Olha attended the Holy Resurrection Ukrainian Catholic Church.
The family is grateful for the caring and supportive staff at Wentworth Lodge, Dundas, the Lilac Lane unit.
