

A proud Hamiltonian, Rich graduated from Westdale Collegiate and signed up with the RCAF, graduating at the top of his class to serve as a Navigator. (Pegasus Squadron 425(RAF), Burma Theatre). After the war, he earned his CA designation through Queen’s University and began his accounting career, culminating in his retirement as Chairman and CEO of National Steel Car Corporation in 1990.
He participated on the Boards of Directors of: the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Dofasco, Mutual Life, FEI Ontario and Knox Presbyterian Church (Burlington)
Dad also loved being at the cottage at Honey Harbour and spent every summer that he could there, where his favourite pastime was persuading us to help with “just one more thing “!
He also rarely missed an opportunity to act as armchair quarterback for the Hamilton Tiger Cats.

He was intensely proud of his grandchildren: Meghan (Rob), Kirsten, Graeme, Stephen, Alexander, Caitlin (Kevin), Victoria, Laura, Amanda (Andrew) Nicole (Jesse) and delighted in meeting his 5 great grandchildren.
In keeping with Dad’s wishes, private cremation has taken place.
A memorial celebration of Rich’s life will be held at the Royal Botanical Gardens 680 Plains Road West in Burlington on Friday April 22nd 2016 from 6:30 – 9:30 pm.
